MLA, Riverview
Progressive Conservative Member of the Legislative Assembly for Riverview, Bruce Fitch is a graduate of Moncton High School and he furthered his studies at Mount Allison University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After working several years in the insurance industry, he joined Scotia Bank, he then ended his banking career as a full-service broker with ScotiaMcLeod.
His political career began in 1989 when he was elected as a counselor for Ward 2 in Riverview, and then as mayor from 1998 to 2003. During his tenure on council, he focused on initiates relating to increased building activity, employment, maintaining a high level of programs and services, promoting Riverview as a great place to grow, and building positive working relationships with other municipalities.
Mr. Fitch was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the June 9, 2003, provincial election. He was sworn in as Minister of Energy on June 27, 2003, and was appointed Minister of Justice and Consumer Affairs on February 14, 2006.
He was re-elected to the 56th Legislature in the September 18, 2006 provincial election. During this time, Mr. Fitch was the Official opposition critic for many areas of interest relating to finance. He also served as a member of the Standing Committee on Crown corporations.
The Election on September 27, 2010 saw Mr. Fitch re-elected to the 57th Legislature, were he was appointed as the Minister of Local Government. In 2012, the responsibility as Minister of Environment was added to Mr. Fitch’s portfolio, as well as Minister responsible for Service New Brunswick and Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency. Then, on September 19, 2013, he was appointed as Minister of Economic Development and Minister Responsible for Invest New Brunswick.
In the provincial election held on September 22, 2014, Mr. Fitch was re-elected for a fourth term, as the MLA for the riding of Riverview. During this time, Mr. Fitch served as the Leader of the Official Opposition until 2016, and then served as the Finance critic.
On September 24, 2018, Mr. Fitch was re-elected for a 5th term to serve the riding of Riverview as MLA. On February 21, 2019, he was sworn in as the Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture.
He was re-elected for a sixth term on September 14, 2020 as MLA for the riding of Riverview. Mr. Fitch was then appointed as Minister of Social Development. He has been incredibly proud to serve as MLA for Riverview for over 17 years. On July 15, 2022, he was appointed as the Minister of Health.
Mr. Fitch is a member of the First Baptist Church. In his spare time, Mr. Fitch enjoys golfing and kayaking. Aside from his participation in politics, Mr. Fitch has served his community as a representative on a variety of boards, as well as a coach for both minor soccer and football.
Bruce and his wife, Nancy, have been married for 35 years and the couple have three adult children; Lauren, Lucas, and Jenna.
