Holt and Liberal Candidate Disagree on Nurses’ Bonuses | PCNB- Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick

(Sept. 20, 2024) – The Honourable Greg Turner, PCNB Candidate for Moncton South, issued the following statement about the NB Liberal announcement that they would pay nurses $15,000 in retention bonuses.

“Liberals constantly promise to ‘fix’ healthcare, but they simply do the same thing every time: they just throw money at the problem.

“Money is part of the solution, but it also takes new approaches and policy changes to get results.

“Recently our government tabled an offer to the nurses that, if ratified, would have made NB nurses the highest paid in Atlantic Canada and fourth-highest paid in the country. It contained a $10,000 retention bonus.

“Nurses ultimately declined the offer, indicating that they were concerned about issues outside of the collective agreement. Susan Holt is ignoring those concerns, and doubling down on a ‘cash only’ approach.

“My Liberal opponent in Moncton South has been a long-standing critic of nursing retention bonuses. I would like to ask her: do you agree with Susan Holt’s plan?”
