Enthroned on the Wall of Fame posthumously
Thomas, son of Thomas MacLaughlin and Lydia Rousselle, was born March 16, 1953, in Tracadie-Sheila. Along with six brothers and two sisters, he grew up in Pointe-à-Bouleau. He studied in schools in the area. He completed high school at the Polyvalente W.-A.-Losier in 1972. He attended l’Université de Moncton in political science.
He worked at the NB Liquor Corporation for 30 years. For the last couple of years, he was assistant manager.
Thomas was president of the Progressive Conservative Party of the Tracadie-Sheila riding from 1995 to 2011. Thomas was a firm believer and a determined person in his commitments. He loved his community and helped its development. He was aware of his role and he carried it out with wisdom and respected those around him even if they did not share his opinion.
Besides his political involvement, Thomas was president of the Local service district in Pointe-à-Bouleau. He was president of the Tracadie-Sheila Port Corporation, member of CKRO community radio, member of the Corporation du développement des Deux-Rivières and a founding member of the Tracadie Généalogie Inc, in 1992.
Thomas, beyond his commitments helping others, was a lively person who fully enjoyed life. His company was enjoyable.
Politics and community involvement were just a part of his life. He attached great importance to his family and his two sons, Alexandre and Marc-Antoine. He would have liked to live long enough to see his grandchildren.
The environment was important to Thomas. He loved getting involved in different activities such as boating, especially rowing. In sports, he played golf with friends, loved to smoke a cigar once in a while with a drink and listen to his favorite singer, Leonard Cohen. The Tai-Chi discipline was a way to help him feel good with himself. A true athlete, Thomas completed the Cabot Trail by bike and participated twice in the Montreal Marathon.
Thomas was proud of his Scottish roots. However, living in an Acadian community, he was a true Acadian without denying his Celtic roots.
