Arnel J. Roach
Enthroned on the Wall of Fame
Arnel began life on February 29, 1924, in Rogersville, NB. Technically, he has only celebrated 21 birthdays throughout his life. For those of us who are fortunate enough to know Arnel we can assure you he still works with the enthusiasm and vitality of a 21 year old.
This unique start has molded an individual who has gained the respect and admiration of an entire community. After serving in World War II, Arnel moved to Miramichi and began his incredible business career. Originally opening Brunswick Plumbing & Heating he went on to create Roach Motors and operated a very successful Ford dealership from 1960 to 1975. During this period he also established Roach Holdings, Custom Paving, Ace Enterprises and somehow found the personal time to run as a candidate under the Hugh John Fleming banner.
Arnel was the founding member of the Rogersville Chamber of Commerce and was eventually honored as Business Man of the Year by the Greater Miramichi Chamber of Commerce. He has served for many years on school boards, committees, business forums and has been a source of inspiration and leadership to many New Brunswickers.
Aside from his many successful business ventures, Arnel has been a role model for how it “should be done” in the sense of his honesty, commitment and integrity to everyone he has been involved with. Arnel Roach is probably the only person to ever work in an asphalt plant while wearing a shirt, tie, sport jacket and hat. While the Miramichi has helped mold Arnel, he has also helped shape the Miramichi in his quiet behind the scenes demeanor. Arnel was never one to seek the spotlight or take credit for his amazing accomplishments and has always operated from a position of quiet humility. He will never tell you about the countless families he has assisted, the ambulance bills he has paid and the asphalt that miraculously arrived in various community centers, etc. He is also legendary for his magic desk blotter that always had a crisp one hundred dollar bill underneath it for the folks who came looking for political donations.
Arnel has preached and believed in the Tory doctrine since joining the party in 1948. He has remained true to the cause, dedicated to his province and country and is always the first to be called upon for his valued opinions during the many campaigns he has worked. If there is such a thing as “True Blue” then Arnel Roach is the definitive example. He has never wavered from his beliefs and has demonstrated complete loyalty, trust and integrity throughout the years. Arnel Roach is not only a great man, a great New Brunswicker and a great Canadian but he is one of the Progressive Conservative Party’s greatest treasures.
